UMKC CONSERVATORY EXPANSION
The UMKC Conservatory Expansion reimagines a prominent gateway to the University of Missouri–Kansas City campus, transforming the hillside site into a more connected and accessible landscape. The project addresses more than 40 feet of grade change with an elegant design that prioritizes pedestrian connectivity and new amenity spaces, including overlooks and a sloped performance lawn.
MCLV worked closely with Helix to ensure the new facilities integrate seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, including an existing grove of mature oak and walnut trees adjacent to the expansion. Native plantings promote ecological function, minimize maintenance, and reinforce the campus’s natural character.
The result is a modern, welcoming landscape that elevates the Conservatory’s presence within UMKC’s campus.
