KANSAS CITY WORKERS MEMORIAL
MCLV, in collaboration with International Architects Atelier, lead the site design for a new memorial honoring Kansas City’s fallen construction workers at Waterworks Park. The centerpiece of the memorial is an iconic sculpture with 18 steel I-beams on a stainless steel base, symbolizing the 18 construction trades. The site design includes various materials and elements that further represent the trades including brick, concrete, wood, stone, and steel. A rough, unfinished material expression alludes to the workers’ loss of life during construction. The trees, planting, and site walls orient visitors to the sculpture with a vista to the Downtown skyline in the background.
